Their music includes variousstyles of musical genres, including contemporary R & B, dance-pop and the Caribbean music styles of reggae and dancehall.150 With the release of Music of the Sun and its lead single "Pon deReplay", Jason Birchmeier Allmusic described Rihanna's musical style as a synthesis of Caribbean rhythms and beats with urban problems pop.151 Rihanna's dance-described using a dancehall and a smooth vocalcadence reggae.151 NME describes the singer as a heady mix dancehall, reggae and R & B.152 Barry Walters of Rolling Stone described as A Girl Like Me album with lightweight dancehall and R &B.153 jams Kelefa Sanneh of The New York Times described her hit "Umbrella" as a sweet light pop with a heavy hip-hop rhythm in fondo.154
