The teacher passes attendance of the students. The teacher proceeds to the greetings and wait approximately five (5) minutes if any student is tardy. Thenteacher portrays on the board different images showing different emotions. Example: people hugging, holiday celebrations, war, oil spills, etc.

Class Development:
After looking at the pictures,the students will discuss what they think about the pictures, what emotions do the images portray and make the students think about. When finishing the discussion the teacher will show the students thetitle “The world is not a pleasant place”. The students will explain in own words what does this title mean to them, what do they understand when reading the title.

Pedagogical Closure:
Afterthe students have an idea of what the title means and how the images are linked, the teacher will then finish explaining that next class we will be reading a poem by Nikki Giovanni “The world is not apleasant place”. The teacher proceeds to give the students a 10 vocabulary homework to bring in the definition next class to start reading the poem.
