WARM-UP
ACTIVITY
15 to 20 minutes
Sit students back to back. Student A has a pen and paper. Student B has a picture from thePicture Dictation worksheet. Student A then describes the picture and student B draws it. The students have one minute for this activity.
After the exercise get students to compare pictures with theirpartner and with other pairs.
Explain to the students that this activity helps students understand what a difference it makes if you can see the person you are talking to and how much information wegive by moving our hands and using our face. When we cannot see the person it is a little more difficult to understand them.
Telephone numbers.
To telephone someone you must know their telephonenumber. Ask one student what comes after “1”.. When they say “2” point to the next student and they say “2” and so on up to “9”. With telephone numbers we only use single numbers, never more than 10. (soa phone number is “1-5-9-6-5-3-4-5” NOT “15-96-53-45”). Now make them count from 9 back to 1 (9,8,7…).
Cut the telephone numbers from the Telephone Numbers worksheet.
Give all the students onetelephone number. Tell them one other person has the same telephone number as them. Students must walk around asking each other for their telephone number.
