Ley 72

On a normal day at the Republic of Panama, the President of the Republic, Ricardo Martinelli, approved the Law 72 of 2012, which allowed the sale of the Zona Libre land. This law was not of the likeof the citizens of Colon; this law was highly rejected by the people of Colon. In response to the law the people of Colon proceeded to create strikes and march together to the Asamblea Nacional anddemand the abolition of theLaw 72 of 2012. The president, Ricardo Martinelli, was in Vietnam presenting the Vietnamese leaders the great advantages of investing in Panama when he received a call thatexplained him the riots occurring in Panama City in which the people of Colon were the protagonists. At the point of the president’s return he approved the derogation of the Law 72 of 2012, assuringthat if they didn’t agree on the articles present in the law, then it shall be terminated, but instead there will be an increase in the rent of the lands, increase which 100% of that amount which willserve to the people of Colon. In the following essay the articles of the Law 72, the actions of the people of Colon, and the new proposal by the president in absence of the Law 72 will be discussed.The people of Colon based their negative arguments about the Law 72 on the fact that the law meant a negative advance in the economy of the region and Panama. The people of Colon said that a very lowpercentage of the money gained by selling the land in Colon will go to Colon and that once that money is spent, the Zona Libre will produce a very low income for the country and for the people ofColon. The people of Colon also said that this would be a negative factor for Panama because of the high danger of drain of capital occurring in Panama. Another argument of the people of Colon was thefact that the Zona Libre is one of the pillars of the economy of Panama and selling it would be the same as selling Panama. I agree with the people of Colon. I think these arguments are true dangers...
