You’ve been working towards this since you started dancing, and now it’s finally happened. You’re performing on stage, and then all of a sudden you know what comes next, your grand jeté.But you don’t do it like every day at practice; you go into a full split midair for the very first time. Your heart is racing, you realize what you have just done, your smile gets brighter and you’renot nervous on stage anymore, you’ve just reached what you have been training for since you started dancing. You have the want, the need to do and achieve more.
Dance is an art that takes strength,dedication, determination, passion and time. You cannot wake up one day and say that you’re going to go audition for So You Think You Can Dance, or for a dance company with no training what so ever, youbuild up to things like that with proper training. There are different styles and types of dance, and depending on your body type you may be better at one style of dance than others. Some of thesestyles of dance are, Jazz/Musical Theater, Hip-Hop, Lyrical, Ballet, and for the advanced in ballet, pointe.
Dancing can be used for many different purposes, such as to relieve stress, a creativeoutlet, exercise, as a personal hobby, and an escape from everyday life for some people. I dance because it is something that I have passion for, there is a quote by Wendy Buonaventura that really speaksto me, and truly shows how I feel, she says “A day I don’t dance is a day I don’t live.” If I don’t dance, I feel like an incomplete puzzle, like there is a part of me that’s missing, and until I getup and dance, I can’t find that missing puzzle piece. I don’t dance so that I can impress people, I dance because I’m able express how I feel, dance can symbolize so many different things, a tragicevent, how you feel on the inside, hope, the possibilities are endless.
