Car prices are generally significantly higher in Singapore than in other English-speaking countries and thus only one in 10 residents owns a car.

Little is known of the early history of the island, although some Chinese writings dating from the third centuryspeak of the site now occupied Singapore, calling Pu-Luo-Chung, an uninteresting name meaning "island at the end of a peninsula ".
