“LIFE IN THE COLONY”
How did they live?
The houses were low, very similar to each other and their thick walls were whitewashed. Only very few houses had ground floor and firstfloor. These houses were around the main square and belonged to the rich families.
The houses had many rooms, with windows overlooking a patio with many trees. In the patio familiesgatheredto talk, drink mate and eat rich pastries. The streets were made of dirt and the sidewalks were cobbled but very narrow. When it rained it was quite hard to transit through thecitystreets.
The means oftransport and communication
The people who wrote and sent letters had to wait a long time, since the media in which they were traveling was very slow. There were no airplanes or cars, theletters were sent by boat or were carried by a postman named Chasqui who traveled by horse. The letters were to be withdrawn in the area’s public office.The transport of that time didnot have much variety. Carts with two large wheels and straw roofs were common. These were pulled by ox but the ride was very slow and uncomfortable.
CLOTHING
Light colors wereused for clothing. Women wore called dresses with something called PRINCESS CUT. Shoes were made of fabric. In many cases they were handmade and in some shoes had occasional embroidery.Fashion was wearing buns, held with a comb, dropping some loop on the side of the cheeks.
The men wore tailored jackets and trousers tight to the body, ALL IN black color..Underneath they wore a white shirt that was tight to the body too. Men from higher classes had to complete their outfit with a hat and a cane. Clothing varied depending on your social class.
