Dear Mr. Morales, I would liketo introduce myself and express my great interest in collaborating with ICMC as a programme development assistant in preparation for the GFMD Civil Society Days. I am currently completing a master indevelopment studies at the Graduate Institute of Geneva where I have decided to focus on migration issues and development, with special interest in children rights. At the present moment, I am workingon a dissertation concerning the impact of migration movements on children in a poor community in Mexico; therefore, I believe volunteering in ICMC will provide me with unique practical knowledge thatwould further enrich my academic background and help me gain practical experience in the areas of humanitarian assistance, migration policy and advocacy. As part of my bachelor program, I carried outresearch and wrote a dissertation on Human Security and Refugees in Europe which gave me a solid background in key terms, issues and challenges of international migration. Furthermore, my volunteeractivity with asylum-seekers and refugee children has given me a firsthand insight into the personal stories behind forced migration and confirmed my commitment to ICMC’s vision of migration as amovement where dignity and human rights must always be respected. In addition to my relevant coursework, a previous internship with the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs allowed me to fully utilize mycommunication and organizations skills. I was responsible for monitoring key issues, preparing background material, drafting and translating relevant documents and assisting in other administrativetasks.
