To what extent you consider Blanche to be responsible for her own misfortunes?

In a way, Blanche could be guilty for all her own misfortunes as shenever thinks on anyone else but on herself and on herself benefits. Considering all her misfortunes, it is clear that she is not responsible for all of her catastrophe, due to the bad luck she hadhad during all of her live. Blanche is certainly responsible in part, but she suffered misfortunes that nobody should suffer and cannot be justify.

On the first few scenes, Blanche’s characterrevealed to the audience as being arrogant, aloof and cheeky. Blanche appeared as being a snob. Blanche shows this just when she arrives to New Orleans, to her sister’s house and said “This – can this be –her home?” This shows Blanche’s lack of respect towards people and things on her surroundings. She also is rude and disrespectful to Stanley by saying that his lack of education and culture mark himas he really is, an inferior class. She is not only being arrogant and annoying to Stanley when she says this, also to Stella, her sister that maybe feels her husband is not like that and that she isnot considering how much Stella loves him.

However Blanche Dubois has had a very difficult past which include misfortunes such as the lost of Belle Reve that this is one of the misfortunes inwhich Blanche is not responsible for it. In addition, on her past, his husband committed suicide. Blanche feels very responsible for this because when she found him on a room with another girl, she saidawful things to him and that hurt him, but this is logical to say things such as “I know! I know! You disgust me…” Her husband suicide due to this situation and Blanche feels guilty for it, incontrast, I think she is not guilty; the one responsible for her husband to suicide is himself for being with another girl.
