2- Describe the character of Martin and his conflict.
Martin Dysart is Alan’s psychiatrist, was given this job because he was the only one who was had been foundcapable for this job. He is believed to be capable for this job because he always deals with problematic people, so he will not be shocked with the case. A woman called Heather gave him this job becauseshe believes that he was the only one who could do this. On one hand, he likes it because it is a challenge for him as it is something new but on the other hand it is a very strange case so he becamequite paranoid with it, and starts wondering why he had accepted it.
Alan’s case is a very strange one and this is shown when at the beginning of the play Martin says: “It’s only the extremity ofthis case that’s made them happy”. By this we can understand that the case it is a very strong one and that Martin was trusted with it, his layer convinced him to accept this case because he believedthat he was the only one in conditions to understand Alan’s mind, as he is always dealing with problematic people, he already knows how to treat them. This is a wonderful opportunity for him to changea little as all his last cases were very similar, this seems to be a challenge for him. It is also shown that Alan is very strange and that this case will be even stranger when at the beginning whenmartin is describing what he sees, he says: “(…) like a necking couple”. It is very rare to see that relationship between a horse and a man this demonstrates like an obsession from Alan towards horses.It is difficult to understand why Alan has blinded the horses seen how he treats them at that moment, and there is where Martin has to investigate. That is not the main thing that concerns to Martinbut also afterwards he lets the public know that he in concern in what may the horse thinking on at that moment. What I mean is that the only difference between the horse and Alan and a necking...
