LITERATURE: GUIDELINES FOR THE P.P PRESENTATIONS

Rene: Theatre in the Greek and Latin world.

Your presentation should include the following information:

1) Origins of theatre in both worlds.

2) Main buildings and their characteristics.

3) Scenic details, such as masks and costumes.

4) The importance of theatre in the Latin and Greek societies.

Youmay decide to talk about Theatre in the Greek world in the first part of your presentation and Theatre in the Latin world in a second part. You may also decide to compare theatre in Greece and Latin Empire. The choice is yours.

Jairo: Classical plays and Classical Play writers.

1) Introduce Homer, the Iliad and Odyssey.

2) Introduce Sophocles, Euripides and Aeschylus and theirrespective plays. (as a list)

3) Introduce Plautus, Terence, Gaius Maecenas Melissus, Seneca the Younger and their respective plays. (as a list)

4) Present the elements of a classical play and present the summaries of a Greek play and a Roman play.

You are not expected to write your own summary of a Greek or Roman play. You may use any summary that is available in thelibrary or in the Internet. If you do so, remember to quote your source.

1) Play writers from the United Kingdom: Choose 3 of the most influential, introduce them and introduce their respective plays. (as a list)

2) Play writers from the United States: Choose 3 of the most influential, introduce them and introduce theirrespective plays. (as a list)

3) Choose one major English and one major American Play. Present a summary of their plots.

4) Choose one play writer that is neither from the UK nor the US, but who does belong to the English world. Introduce him/her and one of his/her plays.

You are not expected to write your own summaries of the plays you will be referring to. You mayuse any summary that is available in the library or in the Internet. If you do so, remember to quote your source. You can find books on British and American writers at the library. They will be helpful for your presentation.

Please, do not talk about Shakespeare, Tennessee Williams and play writers of the 20th century. You may mention them in your presentation as very influential playwriters but do not provide any further information. Three of your classmates are writing their presentation of them.
