They teach responsibility, and they are effective with the full spectrum of students. When used in a firm but respectful manner, logical consequences set the gold standard for effective classroom guidance.Guidelines For UsingLogical Consequences * Use your normal voice: our goal is to discourage the unwanted behavior, not the child performing the behavior. * Think simply and logically: when you think in simple way, logical terms, an appropriate logical consequence usually jumps out at you. It helps to stop misbehavior. * Use timers for dawdlers and procrastinators: timers are useful in situations when children testresist limits by dawdling or procrastinating. * Use logical consequences as often as needed: well-established beliefs and behavior patterns don’t change overnight.
