What is the war of independence?
The Independence of Mexicowas the result of a political and social process solved by means of arms, which ended the Spanish rule in the territories of New Spain. The war for independence lasted from Mexican Grito de Dolores, theSeptember 16, 1810, to the entrance of the Army Trigarante to Mexico City, on September 27, 1821.
The fight
The September 16, 1810 Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, a parish priest of Dolores, in thepresent state of Guanajuato, raised the banner of revolt demanding an end to bad government, but without prejudice to the power of the Spanish King Ferdinand VII. Although initially successful, Hidalgo'srebellion did not survive long. The priest was captured by royalist forces and executed in Chihuahua in 1811.
The leadership of the movement passed to another priest, Jose Maria Morelos y Pavon, who,in 1814, Mexico proclaimed as an independent republic and abolished in Spain esclavitud.Un year later Morelos and his army were defeated by the royal forces under the command Agustin de Iturbide, ageneral Creole. The continued revolution under the leadership of Vicente Guerrero, who led a comparatively small army.
The Spanish Revolution of 1820 affected Mexico's rebellion. The liberal politicaltendencies in Spain dismayed Mexican conservative leaders, who began scheming to separate the viceroyalty of Spain.

Iturbide self Guerrero met in 1821 and both signed an agreement by which joinedforces to complete independence. His plan, known as Plan of Iguala, subsequently established three mutual guarantees: Mexico would be an independent country ruled by a Spanish king, the Catholicreligion would be the only official in the country, and the Spanish and Creole have the same rights and privileges.
