Love, sex, marriage and cultural prescriptions for women, men, husbands and wives in Classical India, China, Greece and Rome.

Society in the classical era was defined by a patriarchal regimen, women had lower rights and they were created with the purpose of serve men, men were brought to this world to rule it and control women. But women also were born to reproduce, satisfaction of male sexpleasure, raise children and be the perfect administrator of a man’s home.
Some differences are found in some cultures, it is true than women could not rule neither study nor own anything than their labor but they had some good attributions as well

Indian women lost their rights as Brahmans took control in the time when the Vedas were difficult to translate; male priest gained power by creatingan elite group for the exact reciting of the Vedas. Some rules were changed and the requirements for the rituals involved property ownership in the time when women could not own property.
Younger females were approved for marriage, as they were getting married being a child, their education lacked on the basic instruction for any higher role than a maid. Females were always in control of a male;the father, husband or son.
On the other hand men glorified wives and mothers; wives were the foundation stone of the home and sons had to respect their mother more than their father.
Jainism and Buddhism are two religions that allowed women in their roles, this was attractive to females who became nuns in order to join these sects, it is true that Buddha himself did not allowed at thebeginning women in any role but he was reminded and convinced by his aunt and disciple Ananda that anyone could reach enlightenment so Buddha accepted women with the same principles of the monks, they had to be celibate in other words as nuns.
The Kama Sutra explains how men and women should behave in the art of the Kama and how they have to apply to the Kama Shastra as well. Women were allowed to learn,study and practice the Kama Sutra in order to be prepare for marriage, and this was the only exception for women to study something.
The Kama Sutra explains how a citizen should live; he would have a house with good gardens, good neighbors and two rooms, one for the females and the other to rest with nice pillows and a soft bed.
The practice of Kama with women of a higher caste or with womennot virgins even from the same caste is prohibited to get married, on the other hand sexual activity with women from lower caste, public women or women twice married is not encourage neither denied by the Kama and its object is just pleasure.

China was greatly influenced by Confucius and his ideas, men interpreted his ideas about women subordination to her family, husband and sons. The bestexample is found in the “Seven Feminine Virtues” wrote by Pan Chao (Ban Zhao) as a Confucian manual for girls; in her latest days she feared for her young daughters and her lack of training to not humiliate her ancestors an her clan; to reach humility a woman has to humble herself before others, she must be industrious and continue ancestral worship; husband an d wife are the yin and yang, bothcomplement each other, husbands control wives and wives serve husbands; respect and caution if referred to the strength from a male and the beauty and gentleness of the wife; finally women must have four qualifications: womanly virtue says about guarding her chastity, modesty and control of behavior; womanly words says about choosing the right words avoiding vulgar language and speak in appropriatetimes; womanly bearing says about wash and scrub cloths, ornaments, her body and hair; finally womanly work says about her devotion to sew, weave, order to prepare wine and food to serve guest and not to gossip.
