CLASSROOM OBSERVATION
There are many aspects which are too important when we are teaching such as learning organization and management, knowledge of subject matter, teaching style, instructionaltechniques, encouragement in critical thinking, learning environment and student´s behavior.
Taking into account these aspects I made an observation at the English course in the first avenue, thestudents I was observing were adult people (starter).
Talking about organization and management, I could see the teacher was punctual; even, he arrived first that many students. When he started his class,he told the students the topic they would develop during the time they would be in the classroom. The topics were simple present, simple past and object pronoun.
When the teacher was explaining thetopics, he always made sure that the students understood, when he saw the need to repeat, he did it; and he all the time was making question to them.
COMMENTS: I could notice the teacher brought hismaterial well-prepared, and he was pending if his students were learning or not.
Now talking about knowledge of subject matter, the teacher made the concepts clear, he gave them real examples, forexample, when they were talking about simple past, he asked them things they had done yesterday or last week and he used it for showing them the verbs in past, first taught them how to write sentencesand then he allowed them make the sentences by themselves and if they had questions he answered them in a polite way.
COMMENTS: The real-world examples were essential for students’ understanding, itmade the topic tangible.
About teaching style, I can say the teacher sometimes spoke softly and the students could not hear him, but a very good point I could see was he encouraged students toparticipate and share their ideas with the class. Also he brought many activities for the class such as songs, crosswords, lectures and so on.
