Machismo

Machismo can be described with a strong trail of characteristics throughout the years. The author writes a description of these characteristics and how men were portrayed in the late 80. In thisessay I will show and present some example and studies about Machismo in recent years. Most men may deny they have some residue of this type of behavior but in fact I definitely think that the Machismocharacteristic that the authors present prevail in this culture.

Let’s begin by giving a small definition of “Machismo”: It’s a masculine ideology constructed by a strong society that establishesan asymmetric relationship between the genders. -Pablo Neruda (37). In Puerto Rico boys are raised with prejudice characteristics like: boys don’t play with girls, boys don’t cry, boys are tougheretc. I ask my father who is teacher in a middle school. How do boy and girls interact in there relationship in school?
As a teacher he considers that girls are capable of practicing sports and thatmost boys and girls are equally strong. There is a myth that girls are weaker. Boys and girls are equally strong until they get to the age of 14 years old. In school he has present some situationsthrough out the years of boy not getting along with girls in terms of playing or sharing together. Unfortunately boys are reluctant to have girls participate in their games or be part of their teams inmany times. Some do not let girls participate in sports or

active activities becauseit is culturally unacceptable. Not every boy has the same reaction to girls there is still a high percentage of boys that come with the wrongs conception of sharing with girls and accepting them asequal. Obviously that depends on the culture and values of the house they have been raised.
