HISTORY
Machu Picchu ("Old Mountain") is the contemporary name given to a llaqta (old Andean village) Inca built in the middle of the fifteenth century in the rocky promontory thatconnects the mountains Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu on the eastern slopes of the Cordillera Central, southern Peru and 2490 m
Machu Picchu would have been one of the vacation homes ofPachacutec (Tahuantinsuyo first Inca, 1438-1470). However, some of its finest buildings and clear the main ceremonial gateway to the llaqta demonstrate that this was used as a religious shrine.Some experts seem to have ruled, however, a military course, so popular epithets of "fortress" or "citadel" could have been overcome.
On July 7, 2007 Machu Picchu was declared one of thenew seven wonders of the modern world in a ceremony in Lisbon, Portugal, which was attended by a hundred million voters worldwide.
Recent acts
On September 8, 2000, recorded a commercialadvertising the beer Cusco (Backus & Johnston), used a crane falls on the famous Intihuatana ("sundial"), breaking about 8 cm from the tip. The case led to a lawsuit by the Incyrespective request for compensation in 2005
On 10 November 2003, the Congress of Peru emits 28,100 law which states that 10% of the revenue for the income Machu Picchu Archaeological Park,administered by the National Institute of Culture, will go to the city of Machu Picchu
In June 2007, actress Cameron Diaz, visit the citadel to make a documentary program on CTV 4RealDescription
The built-up area in Machu Picchu is 530 meters long by 200 meters wide and includes at least 172 campuses. The complex is clearly divided into two main areas: the agriculturalzone, formed by sets of agricultural terraces, which lies south and urban areas, that is, of course, the one where the occupants lived and where some of the main civil and religious activities
