Difference outside the classroom between Finland and Mexico´s education: A creative component
The present study pretend to show some factors between Finland and Mexico, these educational factors could be involve in the result of the PISA’s (Program of International Students Assessment) rankings. Finland is ranked above performance in the science, math and reading; Mexico isranked below performance in the same categories (http://www.oecd.org/statistics/).
Both countries have made reforms to the education system, the literature shows that Finland has been continuous and Mexico is starting to be. In 1975 Finland wanted to be an industrialized country (Jakku-Sihvonen, R., Tissari, V., Ots, A., & Uusiautti, S., 2012); therefore, they reform the education system inorder to achieve this goal. Mexico is trying to compete in an international level but the time is different between these two countries because Mexico started to open in 1988 (Latapí Sarre, P., 2004).
The reason of this study is to see what is happening around the classroom and how two countries could be so different in the PISA’s ranking. The situation is that Mexico is trying to change, sincethe first assessment the reform to the curriculum has been done, but twelve years later the result are the same (Robles Peiro, H., Escobar, M., Barranco, A., Mexicano, C., & Valencia, E., 2009).
There are three main points found in the literature review about the differences outside the classroom. The First one is the teacher and the preparation involve to those who want to teach. This couldcause a different perception between teachers in Finland and teachers in Mexico. The teacher’s education in Finland is more competitive, they need to get a Master’s degree (Karila, K., 2008), and the education in Mexico is technical for a teacher.
The second cause is the work done on inequity. Both countries try to give education to everybody with no differences. The literature review shows somedifferences in this point; both countries have a different cultural background, in Finland there is an influence with other Nordic countries and Russia (Jakku-Sihvonen, R., Tissari, V., Ots, A., & Uusiautti, S., 2012). In Mexico the indigenous groups and the poor people are the groups with more inequity (Bracho, T., 1995); therefore, economy is a factor in this point; Finland is a stable countryand the majority of the population in Mexico is considering poor.
The third point is the decentralization in Finland (Hautamäki J., Karjalainen T. & Kupiainen S., 2009). and how the government and the teacher’s union in Mexico don´t agree with each other in order to have a better education (Robles Peiro, H., Escobar, M., Barranco, A., Mexicano, C., & Valencia, E., 2009)..
This study isimportant because try to show some differences not in the classroom but outside, that could influence the education and the result in PISA’s ranking. The most important thing is two improve the learning and get the majority of children a quality and competitive education.
As a creative component, my proposition is to create a program with the teacher because the teachers are responsible of whathappen in the classroom; therefore this proposition is in order to prepare the teacher in equity, helping the students to help each others, it is focus in change the labels of the “problem” children and learn from everyone.
The research question:
Which differences exist outside the classroom influencing the education between Finland and Mexico?
Does the perception of the teacher could influencethe role in the classroom?
Hypothesis
The role of the teacher could influence the performance in the student’s education.
The student’s integration could help to improve the performance in the classroom.
The autonomy in the school could enhance the performance of the teachers.
