Kensington Palace
A palace of secret stories and public lives
Kensington Palace is now closed for major renovation.
It will re-open on 26 March 2012.
We are now completing the final stages of a £12 million transformation of the Palace. Upon opening, explore our newgardens, shop, café and terrace as well as four redesigned visitor routes revealing both the secret and public lives of Kensington's inhabitants.
Discover stories from Queen Victoria's life told in her own words in the new Victoria Revealed exhibition; master the games of royal court in the magnificent King's State Apartments; get a glimpse of a modern Princess in a special exhibition of some ofDiana's dresses and uncover the secrets of a fragile dynasty in the beautiful Queen's State Apartments. A new lift will make the Palace accessible to all and, from 26 March 2012, Kids go Free.
The £12 million transformation has been possible due to the generous support of the Heritage Lottery Fund, several trusts, foundations and individual donors and members of the public who have donated toour appeal.

Kensington Palace is a royal residence setin Kensington Gardens in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea in London, England. It has been a residence of the British Royal Family since the 17th century and is the official London residence of the Duke andDuchess of Cambridge, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester and Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, while the Duke and Duchess of Kent reside at Wren House. Once theDuke and Duchess move into their new apartment, Prince Harry is expected to move his official residence from Clarence House to the residence the Duke and Duchess vacate.[1]

Today, the StateRooms are open to the public and managed by the independent charity Historic Royal Palaces; a nonprofit organisation that does not receive public funds.[2] The offices and private accommodation areas of the Palace remain the responsibility of the Royal Household and are maintained by the Royal Household Property Section.
