Malnutrition in university students at the Escuela de Dietética y Nutrición del ISSSTEIrazú Gallardo Wong, Laura Leticia Buen Abad Eslava
ABSTRACT INTRODUCTION. The food availability and the life style have originated a epidemiologist-nutritional transition. OBJECTIVE. To identify malnutrition in university students by nutritional assessment means of their nutritional status and to promote a healthful life style in the Escuela de Dietética y Nutrición del ISSSTE .MATERIAL AND METHODS. A cross-sectional study was realized. It included students of first entrance who accepted to participate; it was made a record that included: General characteristics, anthropometric data, habits of feeding, capilar glucose cholesterol, triglycerides in fasting and arterial pressure of them. The consumption of energy, macronutriments and fiber was calculated. The data wereanalyzed with STATA V.8 RESULTS. There were N=53 students (n=47 women and n=6 men) of 19.4+1.8 years. The weight median was 56.6 kg (36.6 to 109) and of BMI 22.6 (15 to 36.6). The 47.2% had normal BMI, 26.4% undernourishment, 15.1% overweight and 11.32% obesity. The 28.3% (n=15) presented cardiovascular risk by waist circumference. The 9.4% (n=5) had hiperglicemia (> 110), 20.7% (n=11)hipercolesterolemia (> 200) and 33.9% (n=18) hipertrigliceridemia. The arterial pressure median was 104 (84- 190)/67 (48-91) mm Hg. The 77.36% realised exercise, 26.42% smoked and 69,8% consumed alcohol beverages. The 60.3% took refreshments (average 260+301 ml) and 98% single water (1.6+0.88 average lt/día).
