Foreword

SOFIM8140.43S/43S3/43N families of diesel engine, developed by IVECO S.p.A (Italy), are built up on the worldwide-leading technologies of Turbo-charged and electrical injection, common rail and so on, which can meet the emission standard of EURO III..And theyare also advantaged for their tight structure, wide versatility, strong power, optimized emission, low fuel consumption, excellent torque, and etc. These engines are mainly used to mount on some light vehicles of light truck, light bus, SUV and so on.
For the purpose to correctly operate the diesel engines and protect the user’s interests sufficiently, we specially compose this manual as theguidance to relevant operator and repairer.
All content of this manual is just based on the current product. Where there is some product amendment in future, some of its content would not match with future product. And we reserve the right to make modification, however, without informing to any user. Otherwise, all data that is quoted in this manual is explanative, not binding at all.
Notice
1.Start the engine, and do not step on the accelerator pedal. Run the engine about 4 minutes at idle speed under one fixed oil pressure, and lubricate the turbo charger sufficiently, which can protect the engine from damage for the reason of no-good lubrication. While try to park after the engine runs at high speed or high load, run the engine about 1 minute at idle speed, and then , turn ignitionoff after the turbo charger is cooled, which can protect the turbo charger or the engine from damage.
2. While the alarm indicator of air filter is on, it shows that the air filter is jammed at core, and needs to clear or replace in time. Where the circumstance is dustier, it needs to clear or replace the filter periodically whether the alarm indicator is on.
3． While the alarmindicator of oil pressure is on, it shows that the oil pressure of engine is low, and needs to stop in time, and check the oil level after the engine is cooled, Or, fully fill the oil while necessary. And if still in trouble, send to authorized workshop for check.
4. The timing system of the engine is driven using a toothed belt, and the server damage could be caused to the engine where theheavy compact occurs and causes the toothed belt to slip a tooth. Therefore, only run the engine without heavy compact. No traction start-up, and no in-the-gear start-up while turn ignition off the engine during the downhill.
5. Must use the defined oil on the diesel engine. Choose different oil number according to different circumstance temperature, and periodically replace oil afterdepositing and filtrating.
6. The coolant must be the clear soft water, and not any hard water with high alkali or more minerals.
7. Whenever engine sounds unusual, try to find out the sounding resource immediately, or send to the authorized workshop for check. For any fake, no fault driving.
8. For the electronically controlled common-rail fuel injection system fitted on the engine,the following important points are specially noticed in respect to the security issue:
• Tighten the high-pressure line joint; Do not disassembly the high-pressure line while the engine is running (no gassing on the high-pressure line, which is useless and extremely dangerous).
• The low-pressure line should be integrated, which does contribution towards the system operation. Doadjustment and repair as less as possible. But, do repair immediately when there is leaking.
• While the engine is running or ECU is on switch, forbid to check whether any connector becomes flexible.
• There is oil return in both of high-pressure and low-pressure lines of the common rail system, which does not need to make pipe gassing.
