SAR Option – Search and Rescue
SAR Option Search and Rescue
The Search and Rescue Option allows aircraft to enter and fly grid patterns to aid in performing search and rescue operations. Grid Pattern Profiles for Search and Rescue (SAR) and other aerial applications are created on the first pagein CALC mode. Once created, the Grid Pattern may be activated in FPL mode at the convenience of the User. Several pattern types are available including Expanding Square, Ladder Center, and Ladder Corner profiles. Pattern customization is provided by allowing User selection of the following parameters. For Expanding Squares: • Pattern direction - Right or Left • User defined starting waypoint •First Leg direction in degrees or First Leg defined by Second User waypoint • Number of Squares • Leg Separation (or distance between Squares) For Ladders: • First Turn direction - Right or Left (turn for 1st Leg to 2nd Leg) • Center start or Corner start • User defined starting waypoint • Search direction or First Leg direction in degrees, or First Leg defined by Second User waypoint • Leg Length •Number of Legs • Leg Separation (or distance between Legs) • Expanding Line Rate per Leg

FreeFlight 2101 I/O Approach Plus SAR 1 Automated Waypoint Generation
Grid Pattern waypoints are automatically calculated and named by the Navigator once the User enters the appropriate parameters. Grid waypoints are user waypoints identified as WPxxy for both Squares(4 waypoints each Square; e.g., WP01A, WP01B, WP01C, WP01D, WP02A, etc.) and Ladders (2 waypoints each Leg; e.g., WP01A, WP01B, WP02A, etc.), where xx is a two-digit numeric identifier and y is an alphabetic character.

SAR Option – Search and Rescue The initial Grid waypointswill be generated when the selected profile is first calculated. As the pattern progresses, the system automatically computes future waypoints, and it will continue to add waypoints as the profile is flown until the Grid profile is completed. An indefinite Grid profile, i.e., a pattern with an indefinite number of legs, may be created by setting the number of legs in a pattern to 0 or 99....
