Marilyn was born on June 1, 1926 in Los Angeles, California, USA. Her mother, Gladys Pearl Baker, married with Edward Mortenson in 1924, but they were separated later. Gladys discovers that she waspregnant. Monroe was born under the name of Norma Jeane Baker because her father was unknown, and Norma Jeane had the surname of ex-husband of her mother. Gladys couldn’t care her due to her economicproblems and emotional. Gladys was diagnosed with schizophrenia and Norma Jeane was in the custody of a mother’s best friend, Grace McKee. Grace McKee encouraged her to act, but couldn´t care her toobecause she was sick. Then, she didn’t want to go into an orphanage. She decided to marry James Dougherty, a policeman. James was 21 years old. They moved together in 1942, but began the Second WorldWar and he left her and he joined the Navy. She moved with her mother-in-law and she began to work in a munitions factory. Meanwhile she enrolled in a modeling agency, the Blue Book Agency. She wasphotographed for Yank magazine at the Factory in 1945. She divorced James Dougherty in 1946. Time after, she was presented at an audition and was chosen as an extra in a movie of Twentieth Century Fox.Norma Jeane there changed her name to Marilyn Monroe in honor of the actress Marilyn Miller and the maiden name of her mother. She participated in over 10 movies. In 1951, she enrolled in night classesin art and literature at the University of California. She moved to New York and she began to prepare her own production. Marilyn and Arthur Miller were married in 1956. They left USA, and theytravelled to London where Marilyn filmed her first movie of Marilyn Monroe Productions, The Prince and the Showgirl. During the filming, she lost a pregnancy. She became addicted to alcohol and sedatives.Monroe always arrived late and with great difficulty she could memorize her lines. She was devastated.
