Present port status
Currently there are two bulk carrier vessels unloading some goods for domestic users in Colombia at docks 6-7, whereCarbosan uses to secure vessels for loading coal.
As well-known this is a private coal terminal which is used to handle the coal cargo for three users: CDC, Glencore and Vitol, but locatedinside the Sociedad Portuaria de Santa Marta that operates to load/unload several cargos, including perishable goods.
Presently there are some important activities at the coal storage area like thecoal cargo receipt as well as the construction of an additional truck dumper to improve the coal reception. The new platform will permit to each one CDC and Vitol - which share Patio 5 -, tounload trucks 24 hours a day.
Coal cargo on inventory
As per the at this port yards, the coal on inventory at the beginning of this shift was close to 31,500 tons. It was said that a bit morethan 80 trucks had been unloaded at the visit time (16:00 hrs).
Despite the amount of trucks currently available to transport the cargo from Prodeco to Carbosan port is not enough to achievethe usual good performance; officers from Prodeco expect to realize the storage of the cargo at the load port without demurrages.
Prodeco wants to keep 240 trucks on back and forth trips (betweenthe ports) to assure that all the balance of cargo will be at load port just on the vessel arrival time.
Coal cargo appearance
The coal on the pile stored at Patio Ancon was seen wellcompacted, apparently free of undesirable materials, fresh and with proportions of fines above previous cargos. All the coal forming this pile has come from Calenturitas mine throughout Prodeco port(hauled by train) and, according to a Prodeco officer is being mined on a seam where good quality specification have been found.
