Mark Freuder Knopfler is an awesome guitarist, singer and songwriter. People who loves classic rock music, knows him as the guitarist, vocalist and songwriter for the band calledDire Straits. He has his own style, a different and amazing style with guitar. He’s one of the biggest musical exponents of rock history.

Mark was born on 12th August, 1949 in Glasgow, Scotland. Whenhe was 9 years old, he began listening to his oncle, who played the piano. However, he wanted a guitar and at the age of 15, he bought one. So, he formed a lot of bands and learned with greatguitarist like Jimi Hendrix, and he appeared on TV. At the same time, he was studying journalism in Leeds. Here, he knew Steve Philips, and they formed a duo together. But, when he finished his career, hemoved to London with his brother David. Right now, they formed a band called Café Racers. John Illsley and Pick Withers joined this band too. So then, they formed the famous band called Dire Straits (inSpanish means “situación desesperada” because they had no money to buy a pick). They became one of the most popular bands and one of the best bands of rock history. They recorded a lot of CD’s like“Brothers in Arms” or “On Every Street” and they recorded amazing songs like “So Far Away” or “Sultans of Swing”.

Moreover, Mark has worked with Bob Dylan (his idol), Sting (on the song “Money ForNothing”), Eric Clapton, etc.

In the 1990’s, he started his solo career with an album called “Golden Hearts”. Then, he recorded a lot of awesome CD’s like “Shangri-La” (2004), “All the Roadrunning”(in 2006 with Emmylou Harris) or “Get Lucky” (2009).

About his own style, we can say that he’s left handed but he plays with his right hand. He uses an awesome style called fingerpicking. He doesn’tplay with a pick (because of his “dire straits” in youth). With this style, he can play a clean and beautiful music.
