Leadership
In 2006 I decided to start my own business as aCellphones and Plans Dealer for Comcel. I rented a small office in the downtown of Sogamoso – Boyacá-. The beginning of my own business was hard because in the first threemonths I did not meet the post paid plans target. I only sold pre paid equipments with a small revenue for me. I started to build relationships by visiting other merchants likesports stores, leather manufacturers and coffees. Another strategy was to build relationships by expanding and offering technical services for the most valuable cellphones.One of the most important lessons I learnt is that Is impossible to build a business by yourself. So I signed a partnership with some young collaborators that helped me toreach the potential market in small villages near Sogamoso.
After some months I decided to execute a participative leadership and I tried to inspire my collaborators byrecognizing their work and motivating to improve each day. One of my strategies was to design a compensation plan for those people according to the amount of the sold cellphoneplan.
One of the biggest challenges of my business was to provide the correct customer documentation to the Comcel’s matrix office. I needed to review manually contract bycontract looking for missing information and writing errors. I could establish data quality commitments with my collaborators by giving a prize for the most precisedocumentation.
After running my business for a year I won two Comcel´s prizes because of my sales level and my customer satisfaction index. That was my personal leadership recognition!!.
