1. What reasons can be given for the question that EDs aremostly seen in women and very few in men?

Overall, eating disorders occur more frequently in women than in men and that has been a confirmed finding from treatment, epidemiological and school based investigations on various correlated aspects associated with EDs such as body dissatisfaction, eating patterns and full-blown eating disordered symptomatology.
Nevertheless, research has failed topoint out the ED occurrence in men, since men are excluded from the study of eating disorders. Less than 10% of research conducted in eating disorders has evaluated these problems in men and this is one of the reasons accounting for men presented to have less eating disorders. Another reason accounting for low eating disorder occurrence in men is the fact that physicians are more likely torecognize and suggest treatment on women and less in men, suggesting that the stereotype that women are more prone to develop an eating disorder is well established.
In general, most research suggests that there are most similarities than differences in between men and women with eating disorders, but there appear to exist specific correlates of eating pathology in men than in women.
The uniquefactors seen in men with eating disorders are relevant to increasing the essence of weight control. In men it has been observed that being overweight acts more a specific risk factor in developing eating disorders, while girls mostly exhibit weight-gaining phobia.
Participation in sports to emphasize low body weight or low percentage in body fat have been observed in men and homosexuality was amongthe risk factors for developing an ED in men.
Conclusion: This specific posed stereotype though has augmented the disparity between genders and eating disorders occurrence, which are more conceptualize on the basis of occurring more in the female perspective. Various features associated with eating disorders, such as weight phobia, have been seen as creating problems in the uniformity of thediagnostic classification of eating disorders and there is need for more inclusive definition in pathology for both men and women.
