PREVALENCIA DE PARÁSITOS GASTROENTÉRICOS DE CANIDOS EN LA
CIUDAD DE ESCÁRCEGA, CAMPECHE, MÉXICO

RESUMEN. Durante los meses de mayo y junio del 2008 en las 18 colonias de la Ciudad de Escárcega, Campeche,
México, se obtuvieron 270 muestras al azar de heces de perros y seregistraron las variables: sexo, condición corporal y
edad. En cada muestra se determinó el número de huevos por gramo de heces (HPG) mediante la técnica de McMaster
y la identificación de los huevos y oocistos por su morfología. Se obtuvo estadística descriptiva de la prevalencia, HPG y
asociaciones de las distintas especies encontradas. Además se efectuó un análisis de χ2 para las variables deasociación
parasitaria, prevalencia por especie y su relación con las variables antes mencionadas. La mayor prevalencia fue para
Ancylostoma spp (52.22 %) seguido por Toxocara canis (14.44 %) y Trichuris vulpis (9.25 %). El promedio mas alto
del HPG lo obtuvo Ancylostoma spp (724.81 ± 3436.85) seguido de Isospora canis (574.44 ± 6911.04) y Toxocara
canis (209.81 ± 1678.19). Las asociacionesparasitarias demostraron que el 68.21 % de las muestras resultaron monoparasitadas, el 23.17 % biparasitadas y 8.60 % triparasitadas. Ancylostoma spp estuvo presente en la mayoría de las
categorías de asociación parasitaria. El análisis de χ2 mostró que solamente la variable edad tuvo significancia y por
tanto dependencia de la variable genero (Ancylostoma spp, Toxocara canis e Isospora canis) (p <0.01) al igual que
para asociación parasitaria (p < 0.01). Se concluye que la prevalencia encontrada de algunos parásitos de importancia
en veterinaria y salud pública en esta ciudad supone un riesgo para estas poblaciones y hace necesario implementar
medidas sanitarias para la prevención y control de estas parasitosis.

ABSTRACT.During the months of may and june 2008, 270 samples of dog feces were collected at random from the
18 districts of the City of Escárcega, Campeche, Mexico, and the variables sex, body condition and age were recorded.
The number of eggs per gram of feces (HPG) was determined for each sample following the McMaster technique,
and the eggs and oocysts were identified according to their morphology.Descriptive statistics of prevalence, HPG
and associations of the different species found, were obtained. An χ2 analysis was also carried out for the variables
of parasite association, prevalence by species, and the relationship with the above mentioned variables. The greatest
prevalence was Ancylostoma spp (52.22 %), followed by Toxocara canis (14.44 %) and Trichuris vulpis (9.25 %). The
highestHPG average was obtained for Ancylostoma spp (724.81 ± 3436.85) followed by Isospora canis (574.44 ±
6911.04) and Toxocara canis (209.81 ± 1678.19). The parasite associations showed that 68.21 % of the samples were
mono-parasitized, 23.17 % where bi-parasitized, and 8.60 % were tri-parasitized. Ancylostoma spp was present in most
of the parasite association categories. The χ2 analysis showedthat age was the only variable that was significant and
was therefore dependent on the variable gender (Ancylostoma spp Toxocara canis and Isospora canis) (p < 0.01), as
