Emergency service
I´m going to talk about my experiences during my practices in an emergency service.
An emergency service iswhere the patients with priority needs are treated.
Urgency refers to the need for time-critical intervention - it is not synonymous with severity. (For example: cancer is a very serious diseasebut does not need immediate treatment.)
Normally these departmen should be open 24h but it may change due to the number of patients.
This department can received patients at any time and many kindof illness or hurts, so they must give priority to those one, with a medical point of view, need it.
Triage: is a critical component at the emergency.
Triage is use to classify patients beforethey receive the care they need.
Normally it is done by a nurse, but in some cases it might be done by a doctor or a paramedical.
Nurse ask some questions to the patient about his health, also shemeasures blood pressure, body temperature and she makes diferents test.
Then the patient will pass to another department, depending of its medical needs, it will pass to another hospital department, another room in the emergency plant or go home if it is ok.
