Open Source House is an initiative of Vincent van der Meulen and Enviu. Enviu - innovators in sustainability - is aninternational community organisation for and by “young” entrepreneurial people. Enviu scouts and generates WOW! ideas
regarding innovative sustainable entrepreneurship and makes them happen. We do this through setting up innovative
sustainable businesses and organisations.
WOW! ideas are: innovative, sustainable solutions for environmental or social issues, have a business case, are scalable,
and arechallenging for young people to get involved. Open Source House has certainly proven to be one of them.

Enviu is based in The Netherlands but has an international network of young entrepreneurs, creatives, young professionals
and students; the decision makers of the near future who share their networks, expertise and timein order to work towards
an economy that creates value for people and planet.
Preface
Enviu - innovators in sustainability in collaboration with Vincent van der Meulen,
is proud to present the results of the Open Source House competition.
With the Open Source House project we aim to start a viable sustainable business
that provides access to better and sustainable housing for people thatare living
at the bottom of the economic pyramid in low-income countries.
The Open Source House project brought together over three thousand people
worldwide who share a common passion for a better and more sustainable
world. They are people with all kind of backgrounds and from all levels of society.
Together, we are working on the first open source house of the world. The aim:
to improvethe quality of life of people who are now forced to live in slums. The
Ghanaian competition is the first step to this great challenge and provides over
250 designs for the Open Source House platform. The designs are also open for
you to be used, to be improved and adapted to the local needs and conditions in
your city. Please feel free to join us in our challenge to address the global housingproblem at www.os-house.org.
First of all, I thank Vincent van der Meulen who came to Enviu to initiate the Open
Source House project. Also, I would like to thank all the people that contributed
to this project and made it happen. Special thanks to Cameron Sinclair and the
other jury members who made a fair and well reasoned judgment. Also, a special
thanks to the Open Source House team, leadusers and all others that made
this project to a great success. To Annamaria van Enk, Kevin Vervuurt and Eline

Introduction
On January 15th, the Open Source House designcompetition started, and had
its official kick-off in Ahoy, Rotterdam; an exciting moment for everyone involved.
Many events, both in Ghana and the Netherlands, have been organized to create
awareness, communicate the objectives of Open Source House and create input
for the Design Case.
Many people from Ghana have been involved in realizing the project. 450 students
joined workshops to come up...
