In this video we will talk about the destruction of the soil and air produced by the piles of trash, known as"Landfills"
The elimination of urban solid waste should be carried out avoiding any detrimental influence to the soil, vegetation and fauna, landscape degradation, pollution of air and water, and in general, all detrimental to humans or the environment.
Millions of tons of waste are dumped every year in an uncontrolled manner or "controlled" in land more or less close to urban centers or rural areascalled landfills.
Environmental impact of landfills
The environmental impact of landfills is increasingly severe, because the volume of waste continues to grow without taking steps to reduce theirgeneration.
In Chile, each person generates about one kilogram of trash daily, according to the National Environment Commission
In landfills, chemical and biological reactions occur between theconstituents of the organic and inorganic matter. The resulting toxins are carried by rainwater contaminating soil and groundwater, or emitted into the atmosphere polluting air.
Landfills either causepollution to air, land or water, adverse effects on public health for the possible transmission of infectious diseases by rodents that inhabit, degradation of the marine environment and landscape impact. Also represent a waste of resources and energy that could be used and a space, which cannot be recovered
Rubbish dumps contaminate the air
Methane gas means the 50% of gases emissions produced onrubbish dumps. It’s an explosive gas and responsible for accidentally fires produced on rubbish dumps. This gas and the carbonic anhydride produced while burning trash are main responsibles for global...
