MEMORY TECHNIQUES
Memory is a fundamental process of the human brain because all our learning skills depend on memory, just imagine: without memory, everything would be new and unknown everyday. Memory is our ability to receive, retain, and retrieve all kind of information and it basically divides in three: short, medium and long term memory.

All three systems work in differentways.

Short term memory or electrical memory is limited in capacity and can only organize about seven pieces of data. When one is added, the short memory system will push out one of the olderones because it only retains information for short periods of time, as well as RAM memory works in a computer. This information is partially understood, for example, telephone numbers.

Mediumterm or chemical memory works as a hard disk, it can store more information and ideas for longer periods. Data can only be retrieved into medium term memory by activating and using it regularly. Whenwe activate the material over a period of time followed by a long period of inactivity this will cause the memory to disappear.

Long term memory also known as structural is so deep that itactually changes the structure of our brain. Even if we don’t use the data for long periods, the information and ideas will be retained within our memory structure just like hard-wired systems. On the other hand our working memory receives information through our senses. If we see it, say it, hear it and do it we will create a four lane motorway into our medium term memory, this is why weshould try to learn in a multi sensory way and take advantage of our senses to make as many mental connections as we can. For example, sitting for hours just reading will take you four times as long tomemorize the same information!

Have you ever asked yourselves why do we forget? This can happen for several reasons like poor attention, tiredness, emotions, new information being...
