Like most women, we consider ourselves experts when it comes to our periods and it’s fair to say that to our past, present or future menopause;however we are still full of questions, doubts, and superstitions. Menopause is an inescapable fact of female life. All women will experience it, but some will feel the effects intensely, others will feelsome of the effects, and still others may feel nothing whatsoever. The effects are caused by a decline in the production of estrogen and progesterone by the ovaries, and changes to organs and systems.Different treatments and approaches are available, nevertheless, the biggest issue today for women approaching menopause is choosing the right treatment. Menopause is not something that happens but something that stops happening, not an event but a nonevent (Minkin & Wright, 2005). By definition, “menopause refers to the end of themenstrual cycle and monthly periods” (Crawford, 2006, p.405), where the main players are the ovaries. But is it that simple? Menopause is far more complex than a nonevent; it is known to have threestages and each of these play an important role in how a women is affected to this life change. The first stage is known as premenopause and it is used to refer to the time when menstruation is regularand before hormone levels start to decline.
