MicrobMonitor2 validated by new test method IP 613

Following an initiative by international oilcompanies to have MicrobMonitor2 adopted as a
standard test method, we have great pleasure in announcing that MicrobMonitor2’s thixotropic
gel culture method has been validated by independent laboratorytests and published as a new
Energy Institute International Petroleum Test Method, IP613, for measuring the microbial content of
fuels and associated water. The standard is available for download fromthe Energy Institute

MicrobMonitor2 is the first, and currently only, test to have completed an independent laboratory
study which confirms its use as a reliable method for monitoring microbial contamination infuel
tanks and systems in the field and laboratory.
Using the new standard, MicrobMonitor2 provides results comparable to the traditional and more
costly IP 385 and ASTM D6974 laboratory based testmethods. This means that any laboratory
currently undertaking IP 385 or ASTM D6974 tests can confidently adopt MicrobMonitor2 to
measure microbial contamination and make considerable savings in timeand costs. It also
means any end user currently sending samples to a laboratory for microbial counts can now carry
out a reliable, recognised standard test in-house using MicrobMonitor2. Tests canbe conducted in
the field by companies own staff saving considerable costs as a result.
The new IP 613 test method and its validation of MicrobMonitor2 will be of specific benefit
to independentpetroleum test houses and test laboratories at refineries and fuel
terminals as well as aircraft maintenance and refit facilities, airport depots and other
technical and engineering personnel...
