Middle Eastern Cultures: Contribution and legacy to modern world

Hebrews:
The Hebrews nomadic people of the Near East, herders of sheep and goats and occasional
farmers, without knowledge ofmetal working, sophisticated craftsmanship or a written language.
Like other nomadic herders, they were tent dwellers.
Culture: The ancient Hebrews often lived as nomads, living in tents andtraveled from location
to location in search of water and pastures for their livestock.
Social: Men often gather together, usually at meal time, to discuss past events, needs, locations
and otherdetails of operating de camp.
Religion: The nomad saw the power, justice, love and mercy of God in all things and cover shy
all of his activities, from eating to making shelter were seen as a service ofGod. The nomad
lived in harmony with his surroundings and understood as been one with God who created all
things.

Phoenicians:
The Phoenicians call themselves Canaanites, and modernresearchers tell us they were the
descendants of two groups, the early Canaanites who inhabited the cost of Lebanon, and the Sea
People who invaded Lebanon about 1200 B.C. The early Canaaniteshad a limited ship building
technology, sailing only flat bottomed barges that hugged the shore. The invading Sea People,
some of whom stayed on, introduced among other things, a much moresophisticated maritime
technology.
Economy: Phoenicians appeared with the established maritime tradition, and the technology to
build ships with a keeled hull. This allowed them to sail the open seas, andas a result, the
Phoenicians developed a flourishing sea trade, exporting were cedar, pine, fine linen,
embroideries, metalwork, glass, wine etc.
Culture: They made a variety of metal articles,colored cloth, the famous Tyrian purple with dye
obtain from selfish. Also the development of an alphabet with 22 consonants.
