He believes he is untouchable by the justice because he is rich and powerful. The narrator of the book also make emphasis in other characters who aredeeply consumed by the Savannah’s people prejudices and customs preventing them cross the divides of their believes, same that happened with Jim Williams who, after to murder Danny Hansford, is releasedunpunished.

This city is where is located the Mercer housewhich is an elegant mansion in Monterrey square, Mercer house is also Jim Williams’ residence. Jim Williams represents everything that Savannah society seems to consider favorable, including money,poise, power and masculinity.
The main character, a wealthy, mid-aged has a secret and mysterious personal life basically based on a relationship with Dany Hansford who is a young characterized byhis violence behavior. Danny symbolizes in the history the poor, the unrefined and the disgraceful. Jim Williams seems very alone in his own world of negation of anything having to do with his guiltyin Dany’s murder.
