HOMEWORK 1 – What is Milk?
Talking about dairy products, the word “milk” arrives. Milk is defined as the secretion of the mammary glands of mammals, its primary natural function being nutrition of the young. Milk of some animals specially cows, buffalos, goats and sheep, is also used for human consumption, either as such or in the form of a range of dairy products (Walstra, et al., 2005).Once that the concept of milk has been described, it is important to mention that not all of the products that are sold in the supermarket as “milk” are actually milk. In the following table, ten products are described in terms of type, brand, presentation, and list of ingredients, in order to compare each other and to determine either if they are milk or not.
