What is Mining Engineering?

Mining is the removal of minerals from the ground to provide the raw materials and energy resources needed to sustain moderncivilization.
Mining Engineering is a complex and interdisciplinary field that includes elements of geological, civil, mechanical, and materials engineering. A mining engineer ensures that mining is carried outefficiently and safely while maintaining sustainability and minimal environmental impact.

Mining Engineers design, operate, manage, and reclaim mines and mining facilities for both open pit andunderground deposits.
There is a severe shortage of mining engineers worldwide due to growing demand for minerals in developed and developing countries. As a world class producer of many importantcommodities such as gold, copper, nickel and oil sands, Canada is likely to remain a leader in the foreseeable future. Mining engineering students can look forward to a secure and well-paid career in adynamic and challenging industry.
