Prólogo
Estimado Lector: Con mucho agrado le presentamos el Compendio de la Minería Chilena, correspondiente a su versión 2009. Esta vigésima cuarta edición es el resultado de nuestro esfuerzo de más de dos décadas registrando el quehacer de la industria minera tanto a travésde la revista MINERIA CHILENA como del presente Compendio; dos publicaciones que avalan nuestro trabajo y reflejan el compromiso que tenemos con la industria. Como es la tradición de nuestra editorial, hemos puesto mucho cuidado en la preparación del primer capítulo que incluye un análisis detallado del mercado minero tanto nacional como internacional, además de los cuadros y estadísticas delos últimos 10 años que lo complementan. Tal como en años anteriores, importantes instituciones han colaborado en la actualización aportando sugerencias y datos confiables para garantizar la calidad de cada edición del Compendio de la Minería Chilena. Entre los organismos destacan la Comisión Chilena del Cobre, el Servicio Nacional de Geología y Minería, el Banco Central de Chile, el Comité deInversiones Extranjeras, entre otras. Para mejorar la comodidad en el uso del directorio, nos hemos planteado la concreción del Compendio de la Minería Chilena ONLINE que esperamos poner en funcionamiento durante el segundo semestre de 2009. Hemos puesto todo nuestro esfuerzo en brindar un servicio completo, útil, confiable y actualizado a la comunidad minera nacional e internacional. Invitamos aUd. a trabajar con confianza con la información que entregamos en el Compendio de la Minería Chilena 2009, edición con la cual cumplimos 24 años de publicación ininterrumpida. Este hito nos llena de satisfacción, pues hemos podido aportar, desde nuestra perspectiva de comunicadores, la información que requieren los agentes económicos que se desempeñan en el sector, y para la toma de decisionesapropiadas.

Dear Reader, With pleasure we present the Chilean Mining Compendium, corresponding to volume 2009. This 24th edition is the result of our daily effort to record the evolution of the mining industry –through both MINERIA CHILENA magazine and the present Chilean Mining Compendium – two publications that endorse our work and reflect our commitment to theindustry. As is the tradition of our publishing house, we have taken special care in preparing the first chapter which includes an analysis of the section and respective statistical figures and tables. Like in past years, important institutions have cooperated during the updating process delivering suggestions and reliable data, with the aim to guarantee the quality of each edition of the ChileanMining Compendium. Some of the organizations are: the Chilean Copper Commission, the National Survey of Geology and Mining, the Central Bank and the Foreign Investment Committee In order to make the research more comfortable, our effort is focused on the development of an online version -the Chilean Mining Compendium ONLINE, which we expect to get this version operational during the second half of2009. We have made our best effort to provide a thorough, useful, reliable and updated information source for the national and international mining community. Please feel free to consult with confidence our knowledge provided in the Chilean Mining Compendium 2009, edition with which we have achieved 24 years of uninterrupted publication. This milestone fills us with great satisfaction because wehave been able to contribute – from our vantage point as communicators - to the information needs of this sector’s economic players, helping them to carry out their daily tasks and to take the best decision.
