biography



Born in the province of Shandong, in a family of farmers. He left school during the Cultural Revolution to work in a factory oil. He joined thePeople's Liberation Army, current armed forces of his country, at twenty, and began writing while still a soldier.

He was an avid reader of Gabriel García Márquez,who was influenced by, also inspired by William Faulkner and Leon Tolstoi.1

In 1981 he published his first novel, Rain on a spring night. In 1984 he obtained aposition at the School of Art and Literature of the Army, which allowed him to devote more time to writing. Success came with his novels The radish transparent and,above all, Red Sorghum (1987). In 1996 published Big breasts wide hips, where nearly a century of Chinese history is seen through the eyes of a woman. This bookwas banned by the authorities Pekín.2 1

In the West is known for the film adaptation of one of his novels, under the title of Red Sorghum, director Zhang Yimoufilmed.

He has been compared to Franz Kafka.3 occasionally and his works have been translated into numerous languages​​, including Spanish.

In an interview in2008, said "maybe a hundred years from a Chinese to win the Nobel" .1 However, the definitive global consecration came the October 11, 2012, to be awarded the NobelPrize precisely for literature4 , calling it the best living writer of the moment, highlighting the victory of the literature on policy. 5

Mo Yan has publishednumerous stories and novels Mandarin, of which only a few have been translated into Spanish. Several of Mo Yan's novels have been made ​​into films.
