Los verbos modales son una categoría de verbos auxiliares.
Los Verbos modales también se llaman modales auxiliares o simplemente modales.

Los modalesexpresan el modo de un verbo: la capacidad, la posibilidad, la necesidad u una otra condición del verbo principal.

Estos verbos se usan con verbos principales para formar afirmaciones o preguntas. Losmodales no tienen conjugaciones ni tiempo y no se pueden usar sin verbo principal.

In a statement, the order of words is subject + modal + main verb.

In a questions, the order of words is modal + subject + main verb.
Example:

Can they come?
In the negative form, theorder of words is Subjet +negative modal verb + main veb
Example:
Subjet negative modal verb main verb

The modal can, indicates a possibility orcapacity.

In questions, is used to request permission to do somethingor to ask about a possibility.
Can I help you?
Can Mike have dinner with us?
The negative form is really simple example:
I cannot / can 't go
She cannot / can´t work

Could The modal indicates a possibility or an ability in the past.Example:
I could have told you that.
When I was young, I could run very fast.
Could also be used to speculate on future possibilities.
It could rain tonight.
This could be dangerous

In thequestions yes or no, Could speculates on possibilities in the present or the future.
Example:
Could she be the murderer?
Could this be a mistake?
In the questions yes or no, Could make a request...
