Mount Vesuvius
Mount Vesuvius is located in the gulf of Naples, Italy. The volcano is one of the only volcanoes in Europe to have erupted with in the last hundred years.
History of archeologicalexcavations of Pompeii
6th century BC
• Archeological excavations of Pompeii are one of the most famous among the world. This city was a luxurious resort for the Roman Empire until august 24, 79 ADwere the city got buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius.
• 34 people die in the house of Cryptoporticus
• 20 people die in another building
• At Via Dei Sepolcri nobody could escape and theirbodies were found on the triclinia
• Most of the slaves, which were 54 man died of asphyxiation
• 80 BC the city grew slowly over the centuries by the roman occupation

1600’s
• There was a workto take back the area, and most of the buildings were restore with the frescoed walls
• Most of the city was brought back to life, including city gates, streets, gymnasium, thermal bath, civil, andreligious buildings

1700’s
• Pompeii was among the earliest archeological excavations started in the Naples and Palermo in 1738
• In 1748, the full excavation begins. Emperor Napoleon sends ateam to explore the ruins, but today excavations are led by the University of Bradford
1900’s
• In the city of Pompeii, archeologist found the skeleton of two adults. One of them was wearing achain wrapped around his leg, which suggested that he was a slave we tried to flee


History archeological excavations of Herculaneum
1700’s
• The city of Herculaneum was discovered by accident in1709, on top of a town cover with mod 65ft underground.
• The excavations began in 1738 using unique techniques of underground tunnels and exploratory and ventilation.
1800’s
• People stop usingthe technique of underground tunnels, and replaced it with open air digs.
• People stop using the open air digs in 1875.
1900’s
• In 1927 after a very long interruption the excavation began again...
