MPLS (Multi-Protocol Label Switching) es un mecanismo de transporte de datos estándar creado por la IETF y definido en el RFC3031. Opera entre la capa de enlace de datos y la capa de red del modelo OSI. Se debe considerar MPLS como el avance más reciente en la evolución de las tecnologías de enrutamiento y envío en las redes IP, lo que implica una evolución en la manera de construir y gestionar estas redes. Fue diseñado para unificar el servicio de transporte de datos para las redes basadas en circuitos y las basadas enpaquetes. Puede ser utilizado para transportar diferentes tipos de tráfico, incluyendo tráfico de voz y de paquetes IP. El objetivo del trabajo especial de grado es Diseñar un modelo basado en la tecnología MPLS (Multi-Protocol Label Switching) sobre la red actual de la Fundación de Estudios Avanzados (IDEA). Esta Institución requiere de una red multiservicios que sea altamente eficiente parasatisfacer las necesidades de los usuarios. Es por eso que se considera fundamental la aplicación de una nueva tecnología en la red actual del centro, que permita que todas las necesidades sean cubiertas de la manera más efectiva posible. Entre los resultados del proyecto, se obtuvo el diseño de la red adaptado a las condiciones futuras del Centro, el cual proporciona alta calidad de servicio y esadaptable a cualquier cambio que pueda generarse. La configuración de VPNs por parte de los proveedores de servicio influyen directamente en el aspecto escalable de la red del cliente. Con la realización de este diseño se espera crear una motivación en empresas proveedoras de servicios y guiarlas hacia la migración de la tecnología MPLS debido a los grandes beneficios que traería a sus clientes, eneste caso a la Fundación IDEA

MPLS is a mechanism standard of data transportdeveloped by IETF and defined in RFC 3031. It operates between data link and networks layers of OSI model. MPLS is the most recent developed in the evolution of technologies of routing and forwarding in IP networks, which implies an evolution in how to build and manage these networks. It was designed to unify the data transport service for networks based on circuits and packets. It can be used tocarry different types of traffic, including traffic of voice and IP packets. The aim off this especial project is Design a model based on MPLS on the current network of the Fundación de Estudios Avanzados (IDEA). This institution requires a multiservice network that is highly efficient and satisfies the needs of users. In this way, it considers very important the application of a new technology of theactual network that allows the all needs are covered in the most effective possible way. Among the results of the project was the design of network suited to the future conditions of the Center, which provides high-quality service and is adaptable to any changes that may be generated.
