El Dia de los Muertos
As I went to the museum on Saturday, even before getting out of the car I could hear the Mexican folk musicwhich sounded beautiful. When I got closer and bought the ticket I saw all the beautiful ladies and handsome young men with their white and colorful dresses and outfits and how they gracefully danced.There was not a lot of room to sit down but my best friend Berenice and I stood there standing for a while and then decided to go inside and see what was going on. On our way inside we saw there werepeople selling Mexican traditional food there, enchiladas, chocolate caliente, calaveritas de dulce, tamales, raspas and there were long lines to buy it all. Everything around me was colorful as it isin “el dia de los muertos”. Inside it was beautiful, a pinata was hanging in the middle as a chandelier, there were flowers all over the place, it felt as if I was back fifty years ago or more becauseof how the people were dressed which is typical in southern Mexico but not here. I looked at everything they were selling, delicious Mexican candy (camote, dulce de leche, dulce de coco), they werealso selling jewelry made by Mexican Indians.
Then we went down a hallway and in a room they had what we call in Spanish: Altar de muerto, they put a picture of a departed beloved one, put candles,their favorite food, things to wear, etc. We saw approximately nine altars, with different people and decorations, I am not being a liar but I did feel sort of peace and quiet and sort of a presencewhile we were there. Outside of those rooms there were people painting skull faces that rocked, people selling jewelry and bags, and all sorts of food. We went outside again where they were sellingelote, champurrado, fruta fresca, and we bought ourselves some raspas because the weather was somewhat warm.
