Ø How can you relate the word cuneiform with music? Use your own words to expand the meaning of it.

Music and language are forms of communication, human being has used them as forms of expression from the beginning of its existence, the first form of writing was cuneiform system of Mesopotamia, the characters of this system were to evolve took forms of music notation,the oldest piece of music is written in cuneiform system, research has shown that Sumer was the cradle of Western civilization, in the field of music and writing



Ø Can you relate Byzantium music with specific Greek one? How?

Byzantine music is the music of the Greek Orthodox Church, is an ode to a voice sung in Greek and is accompanied vocally with a serious and sustained sound calledison or (isocratima), there is no doubt that the religious Byzantine songs are equivalent to the Gregorian songs consolidated in Rome which was sung in latin. Both music styles constitute a solid base on which many later styles are based.

Ø Within Medieval music, what´s all around plainsong?. Express yourself.

Plainsong was the music of the Church in themiddle ages, in the service of Christian religion became the exclusive music from the church until the ninth century, for centuries it had an honour place, a glorious position, the Church always considered it, its own music, perfectly adapted to their ceremonies, it emphasized the exclusion of musical instruments the main reason for this exclusion was the asociation of musical instruments withpagan practice. It gave more importance to the beauty of the shape than to the expression of feelings, also was growing at the same time as the liturgy and much influence in its development and tailored to its needs.





Ø What´s the main characteristic of the Renaissance music?. Explain.

The main characteristic of the music of the Renaissance is the polyphony that combines simultaneoussounds in which each one expresses its musical idea, but forming a harmonious whole with the others, polyphony reaches its peak in the Renaissance using the technique of imitation to interlace the musical lines and create a continuous and uniform musical texture, loudness is more rich and full; the music is written in a more free and expressive style.

Ø How importantly was music considered in the Biblical period?. Explain.

Through the long historical period which covers the Bible, found many references to music in the lives of their peoples and cultures. The music took place in almost allactivities in the life of the people of Israel. Music and dance were present at the celebrations, that marked important events in the life of the people, the music in the synagogue was a function of emotional support and as a tool in education for the maintenance of the Jewish faith and lifestyle

Ø Do some research on one of the greatest representatives of Classical music,Ludwig van Beethoven.

Ludwig van Beethoven (Germany, 1770 - Vienna, 1827) German composer. Born in a family of Flemish origin of artistic traditions He starts a new phase in the history of music: romanticism, his childhood was spent sad and sickening, dedicated to the study of music. at his eight years old he gave his first concert, at age of 12 years old is already a great interpreter, both withthe piano and with the organ, played the viola in the Orchestra of the Archduke, after the death of his father, he settled definitively in Vienna (1792), where he met their true and great teachers: Haydn, Salieri and Albrechtsberger. Focus already in the composition, although it sometimes acts as a concert. In 1796, he started to feel the first disorders of hearing loss, which will be complete...
