Simple past
The simple past tense is used to talk about actions which happened and were completed at a specific moment in the past: Heplayed basketball yesterday. I went to Oaxaca last summer.
The past tense form of most regular verbs is made by adding –ed to the verb: Work – worked play – played end– ended rain – rained
Regular verbs ending in –e, add –d: Love – loved hope – hoped decide –decided change – changed
Regular verbs ending in consonant + y changed y to i and add –ed: Carry – carried cry – cried study – studied
Regular verbsending in in one stressed vowel + one consonant (except w or y) double the consonant en add –ed: Stop – stoppedplan – planned transmit – transmitted
The past tense form of irregular verbs changes completely and it is necessary to memorize them:Take – took leave – left go – went eat – ate
