Mraz (pronunciado maraez.)asistió a Lee-Davis High School en Mechanicsville, Virginia y se graduó en 1995. Mraz es de ascendencia checa por su abuelo, quien se mudó a los Estados Unidos desde Austria-Hungría en 1915.[3] Su apellidoen Idioma checo quiere decir "escarcha."[3]
