My Internship Experience

For my job experience, I got the opportunity to work in a hostel named “Posada Real”. This hostel was not as big as I expected, because at first I wanted to work in a bighotel with many things to do, and there was a small amount of personnel and quite few tasks for me to perform. Sometimes I felt bored and really exhausted due to the reason that I had to make bedsand clean the rooms for three days in a row, non-stop. At the end of my internship I discovered that this type of job is not what I would like to do, and thankfully with this experience I am clearerabout my future.
Before I started working at this hostel, I had a lot of different expectations. I wanted to work here to have more contact with the hotel and tourism business and to relate with peoplein a “working environment”. I wanted to learn about how to manage a hotel, how things work in a hotel, how to manage the problems presented in a hotel and how to deal with possible complaints ofclients. The reality is that I could not fulfill all of my expectations because this hostel wasn’t as big as I wanted, there were not many guests and there were few labors to be in charge of. What I amhappy about is that I improved my cleaning skills, I did a Bank deposit by myself for the first time, I learned how to take telephone reservations from people calling from Colombia mostly, and I learnedabout having patience while dealing with long distance calls. Other valuable things I got from this experience were responsibility, punctuality and honesty. Dealing with money all the time while Iworked at the reception and having the task of depositing checks required a lot of responsibility and conscientiousness. Punctuality was important as well because all the employees arrived at a certainhour and the work had to be done as a group, so if I did not arrive in time then my co-workers might have gotten late with their work as well.
