ATHLETE FAILS DRUGS TEST AND LOSES MEDAL
A athlete was handed a temporary ban from competences in Spain after giving a positive drugs test for a banned substance.
The suspension was imposed on"medical grounds" by Spanish racing's ruling body, who said they would deliver their full verdict "within the next fortnight."
"Following examination of the file and after having duly notified theathlete of its decision, the Medical Committee has temporarily suspended the said athlete from competences in races in Spain, based on medical grounds," read a statement released by Spanish press."The Medical Committee's report has been passed on to the LOVG group stewards. The Spain press and LOVG stewards will be studying the file within the next fortnight before deciding what action willbe taken in accordance with the Rules of Racing," it concluded. So he could lose medal that he had won.
The 30-year-old Athlete is one of the most recognizable figures in athletics racing, winningthe champion competences’ title three times in Colombia. He is most famous for going through the card at Guapa athletics in a meeting in 1991 with seven straight winners.
His lawyer has said thatthe substance involved, which has not been disclosed, was not performance enhancing. Athlete could escape without further punishment or face a maximum six-month worldwide ban from racing.
Last month,Athlete's 18-year association with the Hotaru stable came to an end and he planned to ride next year as an unattached athlete. He had four rides at the meeting on December 25, two for Dubai-ownedGuapa, without securing a winner.
