Cancún (Spanish pronunciation: [kaŋˈkun]) is a coastal city in Mexico'seasternmost state, Quintana Roo, on the Yucatán Peninsula. As a rapidly growing city with a quickly changing skyline, the estimated population for Cancún is 705,000 in 2010 an increase 20% from the census in2005. Cancún is located on the Yucatan Channel that separates Mexico from the island of Cuba in the Greater Antilles. The Cancún region is sometimes known as the Mexican Caribbean or the Mayan Riviera.Cancún is the municipal seat of the Benito Juárez municipality and a world-renowned tourist resort. The city center is located on the mainland which connects the Nichupté and lagoons to a narrow7-shaped island where the modern beachfront hotels are located in the tourist centric hotel zone.

Mayan archaeological sites
There are some (non-relative) small Mayan vestiges of the pre-ColumbianMaya civilization in Cancún. El Rey (Las Ruinas del Rey) is located in the Hotel Zone. El Meco, a more substantial site, is found on the mainland just outside the city limits on the road north to PuntaSam.
Close by in the Riviera Maya and the Grand Costa Maya, there are sites such as Cobá and Muyil (Riviera) the small Polé (now Xcaret), and Kohunlich, Kinichná, Dzibanché, Oxtankah, Tulum, andChacchoben, in the south of the state. Chichén Itzá is in the neighboring state of Yucatán.

My experiences

I have visited a lot of times Cancun, Quintana Roo.
I don´t remember the first time I wentto Cancun because I was too young but I remember when I was like 5 years old that I moved from Mexico City to Cancun and I lived there for 8 months more or less and I came back to Mexico City. All mymother family lives there so thats why I used to live there.
When I lived there I used to go to the school in bicycle and in the weekends I used to go to the beach or to the cinema.
